A bunch of friends in this band, so I might be a tad partisan in this review (although that’s never stopped me from shredding records before), but this is one of the better records of the second half of the past decade. Former members of Tear It Up, Full Speed Ahead, and others continue to mature that style, blending it with Damaged era Black Flag to make a highly enjoyable album. I am pretty sure a few members of Splitting Headache live in different parts of the country, so catch them if you can when they do play out.

An above average demo that reminds me of bands like Rorschach and Cold Sweat. Noisy, angry, hardcore. This isn’t something that I listen to a lot, but I can see other people really enjoying it.

I mean, what more do you want me to say about Floorpunch? Everything is here, the demo, the seven inch, all three compilation tracks, the LP, and the famed, unreleased, possibly thought lost, Straight Ahead cover. The only thing missing from this is the unreleased instrumental on the demo tape of the LP. There was talk of that tape (which is a magnificent, gnarly, recording of the LP which is probably the best recording of Floorpunch) being issued on LP, but, apparently, the master tape is currently MIA. I ripped a nice copy of it online years ago, so I am sure you can find it. BUST!

One of the better bands of the past few years has been Snake Apartment. After an impressive demo, they followed it up with this LP. Influenced by early Nirvana, Wurm, Melvins, Malfunkshun, and others, Snake Apartment play very dirty hardcore that would have fit in well on SST or Sub Pop in the mid to late eighties. Definitely worth checking out.

Take a trip in your TARDIS back to the early 90′s for the Vile Bodies demo. This band reminds me a lot of a faster version of Heroin or Drive Like Jehu. Some of the more melodic songs are similar to Hot Water Music or All Chrome. Are they named after the Evelyn Waugh novel? Cool.

This is one of the best records I have heard in awhile. Scandinavian style hardcore with lyrics in Japanese reminding me of Nightmare, Anti Cimex, and Crucifix amongst others. This style is filled with horrible, derivative, garbage and this band really stands out above the rest. Great stuff worth checking out.

As you may, or may not, know, this band became the might Sleep. While not quite up to the Sleep sound, listeners can hear the beginning developments of their sound on these four, the only they recorded, songs. Not something I will listen to all the time, but a useful artifact telegraphing what would come next.
